Visit AICM in Uganda
Join us on a very special trip to Uganda!
The Friends of AICM are organising a trip to Uganda in July 2009 to see the work being carried out by AICM and to enjoy the wonderful people and wildlife of this unqiue and beautiful corner of Africa.
The objective of the trip is two fold: to increae awareness and enthusiasm for Gods’ work through AI
CM and to showcase the beauty and plight of Uganda and it’s people.
If you would like to meet the people of AICM and the communities that together we support, and especially if you have not experienced the magic of Africa before then this trip is for you.
Proposed itinerary
We`ll fly to Entebbe and from then travel to the capital Kampala, a busy fascinating city. We will probably stay a couple of nights here in hotels. From Kampala we drive down to Kabale which is in the south west of the country in 4×4 vehicles driven by members of the party. This is a long but fascinating drive
Kabale is the main location of AICM and is the hub of the rural communities it serves. The staff will make us warmly welcome; African welcomes are like no others! We`ll stay around a week in and around Kabale, and will probably use local hotels which are very basic, but perfectly hygenic and with basic ensuite facilities. Kabale is in the middle of a beautiful area sometimes called “Little Switzerland”, so as we tour around visiting some of the AICM projects, you will be passing through stunning scenery. One day will be given over to a visit to Lake Bunyoni, a stunningly beautiful lake close by, and we`ll take a boat trip to to Bushara island which is home to many beautiful birds. You will visit one of the Batwa communities and some of the other rural community projects; these communities will undoubtedly sing and dance their welcome. Other visits may include Ihunga school, health centres and on site in Kabale you`ll see a lot of the VTC (Vocational Training College) and its students.
After our visit to Kabale we plan to head for a safari park, most likely Mweya Lodge where the accomodation is out of this world and you`ll have the chance of a morning game drive and a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel which is a waterway famed for the many hundreds of beautiful birds. Uganda is home to thousands of beautiful birds and we`ll be on the look out for lots as we will have a keen birdwatcher with us. There’s a swimming pool at the lodge and the food is something else!
Kabale is nearly on the Rwanda border and close to Mountain Gorilla reserves. There may be opportunities for a visit to the Gorillas; these trips have to be booked up a long way in advance, and would cost extra, in the area of £400. This will be considered closer to the time if there is suficient interest.
Our party will be limited in number according to how many vehicles we can get, we`ll try to take as many that would like to come. If you are really interested let us know as soon as you can, then we can start to make more definite plans. You will require innoculations before the trip, and will require protection against Malaria. The climate is like a really warm English summer in Kabale, hotter in Kampala and at the Safari Lodge.
We estimate the cost of the trip to be £1,500 per person including flights
