Mosquito Nets for VTC students.

410 Mosquito Nets were handed to the VTC. It was thought that this was enough for every student to have one but the roll has now increased to 503.

the nets will be fitted to the three tier

bunk beds. Kabale is not the worst place for Malaria in Uganda but it is a seasonal dangerous disease.

New Motorbikes for Extension workers

Friends of AICM Crisis Appeal for Salaries

One of Friends of AICM `s main functions is to keep AICM in Uganda funded in terms of salaries. This includes salaries of Timothy(Director) and George(Financial Manager) AICM urgently needs to appoint a field coordinator and a Principal for its Vocational Training College. In order to be able to fund these posts we need to increase our regular giving substantially, We are having encouraging responses from our supporters. If you can help please go to “make a donation”.

AICM’s Financial Manager visits the UK

Kwarigaba George has been working as the financial administrator for AICM Uganda for the last 10 years. Recruited from a nearby hotel by Bishop Enoch, George has devoted himself to the work of AICM and this is his first ‘holiday’ in all that time. Friends of AICM felt that George would benefit from some training and advice here in the UK and sponsored his visit. George has spent time in Oxford, London, Folkestone and Sissinghurst, where he visited various churches, friends, family and schools.

Ablution block for Murubindi

After hearing about the work of AICM at a talk by Lawrance Titterton, a Trustee of the Friends of AICM, at St Mary’s church in Stelling Minnis, one parishioner felt strongly called to make a difference in Uganda. He contacted Lawrance to find out more about the work and the situation, prayed about it, and then decided to pay for an ablution block to be built at Murubindi.

Up until then the toilet consisted of a deep hole in the ground, covered with a plank of wood with a hole cut into it, surrounded by a flimsy wall of reeds and bamboo. Murubindi is one of two Batwa settlements that has a school. The other Batwa settlement with a school, Rwamahano, has had permanent toilets since 2006 and it has made a major difference to the health and well-being of the residents. The well-wisher (who would prefer not to be named) donated just over £2,000.

Timothy got the wheels in motion over in Uganda and within two months a small ablution block was constructed, providing two permanent toilets as well as two washing areas for the residents and children of Murubindi. Our heartfelt thanks to the generous donor.

VTC Sponsorship Appeal

The academic year in Uganda is in full swing after the long Christmas (their summer) holidays. The VTC had a very successful 2009 and has been inundated with new students for this year. Some of the applicants are, however, not able to pay the fees and their only chance of further education is via sponsorship.

If you are able to sponsor a student at a rate of £22 per month (this covers tuition fees, accommodation and stationery) or if you know anyone who would be interested in such a scheme, please contact us. You can fill in a sponsorship application form in the Sponsor a Child page.
