Craft Sale at CAF
April 2nd, 2010
After his first visit to AICM in Uganda in 2008 Lawrance Titterton felt strongly that one of the best ways to relieve the plight of some of the groups there was to help them to help themselves. Supported by Timothy, director of AICM Uganda, he started the Craft Initiative with some of the women at Ndego, near Ihunga. Ndego is usually used as a gathering place for the Women’s Groups that are supported by AICM. These groups consist mainly of AIDS widows and they are helped with farming implements, seeds and livestock in order to become self-sufficient. Since 2008 we have received 3 consignments of baskets, which are bought from the women directly so that they have an immediate income, sold in the UK for a small profit, and the proceeds are then sent back to AICM Uganda and shared by the women’s groups.
On Tuesday, 30 March, we had a sale at the offices of Charities Aid Foundation in Maidstone. We sold about £190 worth of craft and the money is being sent out at the end of this month to buy more items. Our thanks to CAF for their enthusiastic support.
