AICM Alternative Gifts make a real difference!
August 2nd, 2008
AICM in Uganda recently held a ceremony involving more than 500 people to distribute deperately needed items purchased through the Friends of AICM Alternative Gifts programme to local womens groups and the community.
Items distributed to the women groups and the community included the following:
- Forty goats were handed over to twenty women & widows groups, all operating under the AICM Bwindi Community Conservation Association.
- Ten improved bee hives were handed over to Kiriba beekeepers to be installed on a one acre piece of land purchased for the installation of the beekeeping project.
- Three sprayer pumps to boost the Irish potato growing. These have been added to the 6 sprayer pumps already handed over to the community in previous donations from the Friends of AICM under the alternative giving program.
- Two piglets were handed over to Ryamihanda Batwa Group in addition to the 10 piglet circulating among the members of the ethnic minority group (which were also a result of theprevious alternative giving funding).
The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Cox Nyakairu, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) (special representative of the President at the district level) for Kabale District. More than 500 members of the AICM-Bwindi Community Conservation Association attended.
After the ceremony Timothy Twikirize, Executive Director of AICM in Uganda said:
“The alternative giving program remains vital and instrumental in enabling AICM to sustain its outreach programmes to the vulnerable and marginalized members in the rural communities, thereby enabling AICM to continue focused on the vision of ‘an empowered, transformed and self-sustaining community in Africa’, in addition to giving credibility to AICM as an organisation with tangible impacts on the ground in terms of service delivery.
Special thanks go to the Friends of AICM for reaching out to the vulnerable and marginalised members of the ruralbased-community through AICM and for reaching out to God’s people in their hour of need thereby, through AICM, replicating the practical application of the Christian faith. It should be noted that items such as bicycles and uniforms were not acquired due to the needs assessment carried out. Thus the funds allocated remain on the alternative giving account for future utilisation. Once again, our heartfelt thanks to you for your strong partnership and support.
May God bless you richly!”
